Linda, read this:
Deuteronomy 6:2 KJV
That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged .
Deuteronomy 8:6 KJV
Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
Deuteronomy 13:4 KJV
Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Keep in mind that the word FEAR basically means to have a reverential AWE of GOD, of WHO HE is and HIS eternal LOVE for us.
Jesus reminded us that the greatest commandment was to "love the Lord Thy God with our heart, mind, and soul and that the second greatest is like unto it, to love thy neighbor as thyself".
WAS NOT JESUS GOD in the flesh? Was this not God INCARNATE???
He said that HE and HIS FATHER are ONE. He thought it not robbery to be equal with God because He was GOD.
The FEAR of the LORD is the beginning of Wisdom.
This is not saying to be shaking in your boots fear. This reverential AWE of WHO HE IS, WHAT HE HAS DONE, WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US, WHAT HE HAS PREPARED FOR US in ETERNITY.
"I go to prepare a place for, and if I go to prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you unto myself that WHERE I AM, there ye may be also".
This was JESUS (GOD) speaking. He left earth as HE said he would to go prepare a place for ALL who would believe in HIM to dwell with HIM for ALL eternity!
So, keeping things in perspective and knowing that JESUS and GOD are ONE AND THE SAME, yes, we should LOVE HIM out of the reverential AWE (worship) we should have in our hearts toward HIM alway.
