Rumors swirl that Syria freed Al-Qaeda No. 4 from prison
BEIRUT: Jihadist circles have been abuzz lately with speculation that the Syrian authorities may have released Mustafa Setmariam Nasr, better known as Abu Musab al-Suri, a top Al-Qaeda theoretician.There is no confirmation that he has been released – indeed it has never been publicly confirmed that Nasr was being held in Syria in the first place.

U.S. Fears Iran's Links to al Qaeda
WASHINGTON—U.S. officials say they believe Iran recently gave new freedoms to as many as five top al Qaeda operatives who have been under house arrest, including the option to leave the country, and may have provided some material aid to the terrorist group.
The men, who were detained in Iran in 2003, make up al Qaeda's so-called management council, a group that includes members of the inner circle that advised Osama bin Laden and an explosives expert widely considered a candidate for a top post in the organization.

Don’t let these Taliban leaders loose
President Obama is reportedly considering releasing several senior Taliban leaders from Guantanamo Bay as an enticement to get the Taliban to the peace table. If he does so, he will do tremendous harm to American national security — and to his prospects for reelection this fall.
