Nobel Energy will drill in waters claimed by Cyprus and a helicopter will drop three Americans and an Israeli onto the platform, which is surrounded by Turkish ships.

Erdogan must be beside himself, lol.

Very interesting piece from Uncnesored... have to say I was pretty shocked when reading Erdogan proclaimed he would freeze EU relations if Cyprus is given the EU presidency in 2012. He comes across as a wacko.

Erdogan overextended himself

As Israeli-Turkish relations hit bottom, we predict the Turkish government is likewise going down.

Muslim rulers have long been irritated by Erdogan’s double-dealing. He attempts to mediate various conflicts and be friends with everyone, which makes him a friend of no one, with every side disliking his leanings toward the others. Iran, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia do not want him as a regional power broker. They resent his mood changes: befriending Iran, then leaving it in favor of the US, then opting for Syria, then again for the US, then for the Saudis, and now for Egypt. Regional rulers especially have a problem with Erdogan’s closeness to Obama, whom they view as a threat to their regimes.

Erdogan has thus failed in every single diplomatic endeavor he has undertaken. Other rulers consider him a clown.
Domestically, he faces growing discontent over his economic policies. The Turkish miracle of weathering the world crisis was accomplished by inflating the money supply. The effects of that policy are becoming clear to common Turks and will give them their best argument for ousting Erdogan’s government.

Islamists have replaced the secular generals of the Turkish army, but most of its lower-level commanders remain loyal to Ataturk’s values and cannot but hate Erdogan.

His recent unusually strong moves against Israel set him against the US and European powers, since diplomats do not like undiplomatic rulers. With his overtly anti-Israeli policies, Erdogan has broken a NATO taboo against publicly opposing Israel. He also clashed with Greece, a sensitive EU member, by sending his navy close to Cyprus.

Via elections or a coup, Erdogan seems to be on his way out.
