Various states have different and sundry 'reporting' requirements.

The Feds have NO business being in the 'reporting' realm.

The production data from FEDERAL LEASES is the only legit 'reporting' for this info.

Watchdog ? How does production data become a 'watchdog' requirement ?

The information is available EVEN WITHOUT the reporting requirements.

When the FREE MARKET is able to provide a service - GOVERNMENT has no business 'competing' with that service - supplanting it, or otherwise getting involved in that arena. If various 'government' bodies (such as the Military) - have LEGITIMATE needs for that data - they can durn well buy it .... FROM THE FREE MARKET.

LIMITED GOVERNMENT - it's not just a 'good idea' - it is ESSENTIAL to our freedoms.

Too damn many camels with their noses in the tent - hell, their whole damn bodies.

ok, embarrassed I didn't check google, but doesn't that company exist due to regulations requiring submission of the data? Thurn it over to the industry and there's no watchdog, no?
