LINDA - a STRONG caveat on CHROME and FireFox also.
Both of these use an SQL lite to maintain the list of 'visited sites' and other crap. That DB grows HUMONGOUS - in a hurry.
So, Chrome at the very start will be fast and efficient - but will deteriorate (rapidly) over time.
CLEAR THE CACHE, BROWSING HISTORY, and DOWNLOAD HISTORY - frequently (depending - I do it several times a day) - from "the beginning of time" (Tools - Clear Browsing History - opens new tab ... 'Under the Hood' )
Do that - and it will STAY efficient. The SQL lite SUCKS the big one - and the DB can NOT be cleaned by any 'free' utilities on the net (no surprise there - sql databases are a bitch ) - at least none that I could find a couple of months ago.
Hardly anybody even RECOGNIZES this huge problem - I see little to no discussion of it on the net.
It has made a tremendous difference for me in keeping BOTH Chrome and Firefox somewhat efficient.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good ...
