Hyup - as I have stated several times previously, here and abroad - surge protectors are pretty damned useless. Battery UPS DOES 'surge protection' properly.
The common 'surge' protectors can actually AMPLIFY certain spikes - they are, after all, RLC circuits, and, like all RLC circuits, they have tuning spikes in their responses - ie. frequency dependent responses.

Battery UPS is far, far more stable. Some argue it is because of the huge 'capacitance' value that batteries have (that from electrical engineers) - and they have a valid point on that issue.

For years we had to buy Mom a new TV every two or three years. The serge protectors did not work. Then I gor a battery back-up and her TVs now wear out.
