Thankis, ribit. I thought they had downgraded us to a tropical storm, but the 11pm advisory is ominous:

It shows the storm going back out to sea and coming in with H - high wind -- 74-110 mph. I think that's worse than anything we've had, but I'm not certain about Gloria in '85.

It also appears to be slightly offshore and hitting mid-island and traveling straight across. At those speed winds, it will cream us. But, I'm speculating because the eye will go right over, we might not get a lot of the churn of the periphery of the storm, the swirl?

The good news is it will arrive Sunday morning, not Sunday night. I really want to be able to see without a flashlight, so that's a plus.

I will be fully dressed, regardless of day or night. And I'll be sleeping in the living room instead of my bedroom, as there's a big tree next to the driveway in front of my bedroom. eeek. I'll be upset if that thing falls on the house and douses my library, and that's the least of it.

I'm intending to go out and make one more purchase tomorrow, an axe. Maybe a saw, too, if they're cheap.

Shoot, I hope the trees stay up. Today was hot and dry, that helps a wee bit.

I have one of those grocery carts. The last thing I intend to do before filling every soda bottle and bucket with water is fill the cart with whatever we would need if we need to evacuate. That wouldn't be a broad evacuation, but one if the place became structurally unsound for any reason. And I hope it's not due to a tree falling on us or the roof coming off upstairs!

I think I've done about all that can be done. Only thing I couldn't get today was ice. I'm going to waste gas looking for some tomorrow...

Oh and waiting in line for cold cuts, someone said some of the stations are out of gas and ATMS out of cash. I got both without too much fanfare.

I sure hope the bridges and tunnels make it. There's no food storage here. Nearest one's CT. If we can't get food and water, the military will have to come in. never a dull moment, eh?

Oh, btw, in case you ever decide to go to a hotel due to a storm, be aware you can be thrown out if emergenciy workers need housing. They have contracts, call up for rooms and the hotels have to honor it, even if you're snuggly parked in your room. Pays to get in the car and go as far away as possible, I'd say...
