I had a college professor tell me once that communism was an economic system and that democracy was a political system and that you could have a democratic / communist society and it would work just fine. Then I "splained" to him that we don't live in a democracy, (it's a constitutional republic) and told him that the only way communism can be made to function even the tiniest little bit is with total state control, lots of secret police and of course gulags. He was aghast at the notion. He asked me how many "communists" I knew. Told him that I didn't actually know any, but I had killed dozens of em.
