GAZA, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Israeli F16 warplanes raided several targets in Gaza City early Thursday following earlier rocket attacks on southern Israel, witnesses and security sources said.
Two explosions were heard in western and eastern Gaza City shortly after the Israeli warplanes flew over the city of Gaza, the witnesses said.
Security sources said two training posts belonging to Izedein al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement, were hit by missiles, but no injuries were reported.
The airstrike was an immediate Israeli response to earlier homemade rocket attacks on southern Israel, said the witnesses and the security sources.
On Wednesday night, an Israeli army spokesman said that several projectiles were fired from Gaza at southern Israel and no injuries were reported. No party has claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks.
The Hamas movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, has recently agreed with minor Gaza militant groups to refrain from launching rocket attacks at southern Israel.
Some al-Qaeda inspired militant groups, however, have rejected an indirect cease-fire with Israel and claimed responsibility for several rocket attacks over the past few weeks.
