Yes, we wouldn't even be hearing a whisper about a BBA if the people running the federal government for the past 100 years (or maybe more) adhered to The Constitution, in the first place ... 'cuz then we wouldn't be in the pickle we're in now. The problem isn't The Constitution ... it's the power-hungry assholes (Republicans, as well as Democrats ... but Democrats being demonstrably the worst offenders) who ignore The Constitution, at our peril, so as to feather their own nest and those of their co-conspirators.

Ribit - absolutley spot on question - and I believe it to be purely rhetorical (iotw: self-answering).

As I stated before, the courts, congress, and the potus ALL have routinely ignored the clear written meanings in the Constitution - and will continue to do so.

As I recently stated, this 'Balanced Budget Ammendment' idead is a really, really, really BAD idea - for the above reason - it makes no difference to the jackasses and assholes currently occupying our government (read 95% of all occupiers - both repub and dem ).

In light of that - your gut tells you two things:

#1.) Any 'new' ammendment(s) to the Constitution would suffer from the same 'ignoring' as the rest of the Constitution.

#2.) The potential for any NEW ammendments to bite us in the ass are HUGE.

Methinks that what you have outlined as a 'possiblity', Sire Ribit, goes far beyond being a 'probability' and ranks right up there with being:

1.) a foregone conclusion.
2.) an absolute certainty.

and lastly, but not leastly (sic) ....

3.) A "You better bet your sweet ass that will happen, baby."
