Nope. The exclusive sense of your interpretation doesn't jump out at me. When I read the original piece I didn't think for a minute that the US originated the concept of jihad or that it wasn't taught. What we orchestrated was the production and distribution of textbooks designed to emphasize and encourage violent jihad. That jihad existed a priori is understood. Indeed, if it was not already there, the texts would not be effective as it is a difficult concept to introduce.

The phrase in bold is the most accurate description and quite frankly it seems much worse than saying we 'taught jihad'.

Bottom line is that we attempted to manipulate the Afghan Muslim culture and succeeded only to have it blow up in our faces years later. We meddled and got burned, so the lesson should be 'don't meddle'.

Take a last shot if you must. We've pretty well exhausted this.

Due - when we start SOUNDING exactly like the left in our admissions - we err egregiously.

Example: "We did indeed teach jihaad ...."

Connotation and Denotation. Technically a correct statement, but the connotation is ENTIRELY untrue.
Poor choice of words - because of so much that it implies and that which it leaves out.

THEY ALREADY KNEW VIOLENT JIHAAD - the statement "We did indeed teach jihaad" implicitly (damn near explicitly) states, ex post facto, that that "They did not know about jihadd until we 'taught' jihaad to them."

Do you NOT see the problem with statements such as that ?

We took their own teaching of jihaad and attempted to use that concept for our own purposes.

Both statements are ACCURATE portrayals of history. The second is FAR closer to actual 'truth'.

Words matter.
