A simple statement of historical fact that you cannot deny. We did indeed teach jihad and played a significant role in the creation of a generation of what Reagan short-sightedly called 'freedom fighters' in the mideast.

You can't counter the leftist meme by ignoring it. The truth must be told and errors acknowledged or they will recur again and again.

Yeah. We did that. What idiots we were. Can't make that mistake again.

You and I essentially agree except when you get fixated on a narrow interpretation. History is filled with American foreign policy foolishness that backfired. If we don't admit this we're doomed to keep blundering.

I even agree that RP is unelectable and hope/pray that Sarah runs. RINO Romney said yesterday that he thinks the Republican nomination race will come down to himself and an “unelectable hard right counterweight.” He's referring to Bachmann or Paul, and he's probably correct. Romney's better than Obama, but not by very much.

Due - Over-reaction ?

Hardly - Because that 'meme' - that the US is RESPONSIBLE (meaning totally responsible) for the violence of the muslims is what the left has been preaching for a long time.

It is also the mainstay of MASSIVE disinformation pogroms carried out by the likes of the 'muslim brotherhood'.

Now - if you REALLY want to pursue that meme - in light of the above - go right ahead - but without me.

Nope, not an over-reaction at all.

Similarly - the 'meme' of disinformation about jihaad that is CONTINUOUSLY propagandized on the airwaves, in print, in person by the lying bastards in the world is that 'you are uneducated. jihaad does not mean violence - it simply means struggle. There are those that abuse the term jihaad to mean holy war .... blah, blah, blah ....'

IT IS BULLSHIT - and untrue. There are NUMEROUS scholars that get it absolutely correct ... that the koran, kuran, quran, the unholy treatise of the evil muhammed, preaches VIOLENT jihaad - and teaches it throughout that un-holy book. Those that attempt to pass off 'jihaad' as simply 'struggle' - are either willfully ignorant or deliberately lying.

No excuse for the PERCEPTIONS that RP fosters - Being able to get one's point across without being PERceived as a ranting lunatic (eg. anti-American, anti-Israel - whether he is or not matters not a whit - it is how he is PERceived) is the sine qua non of politics.

Like I have said before - I do agree with a lot of what he has to say - but, damnit he blows it too often in HUGE ways by opening his mouth with the wrong words at the wrong times - as he did in that debate.

That debate alone makes him unelectable in this country. It is insurmountable - no matter how much explaining, teaching, spin, position papers, or standing on his head that he or his supporters do.

Agree or disagree - OPINIONS are what matters in politics - not actual facts. That may not seem 'right' and 'correct' - but the 'fact' of the matter is that MANY times, what are touted as 'facts' are HEAVILY disputed - even by people of good conscience, and quality education; making many 'political facts' nothing more than merely strongly held opinions.

You THINK you have a hard time convincing ME - a fairly well educated conservative, and knowledgeable about his positions - to vote for Ron Paul ?

You haven't seen nuttin' yet. The general public will reject him by landslide majorities.

I will predict that you will see little 'real' opposition to Ron Paul from the DEMOCRATS during the 'primaries' - in fact, they will stay fairly quiet about him. When that happens, understand what it means. I believe the democrats would LOVE to see RP as the main opposition candidate to their freakin' usurper. Not so with Sarah Palin - she scares them shitless.
