The title was intentionally provocative, of course, and you overreacted on cue. Yes, I was indeed thinking 'When trots see this title, he's gonna go (ahem) apeshit.'
The title statement is true nonetheless...OUR policy and funds produced educational material that was widely distributed and designed to emphasize and encourage VIOLENT jihad. You misinterpret the title to mean that the US originated the concept, but what we did was use the power of print propaganda to revive an ancient (and at the time relatively dormant) meme and infect a new generation. The target was the Soviet Union, but the long-term effect was blowback.
Bringing the discussion full circle, it is this kind of meddling with other nations that Ron Paul vehemently opposes, and such opposition is IMO wise policy, not isolationism.
