BTW, a similar extract of the Stevia plant (the leaves)from South America. More concentrated than sugar, but does not have the "bite" and odd taste of commercial non-sugar sweetners. Two brands I use are Truvia and Pure Via. I recall there are others on the shelf that use Stevia. Good in drinks and on cereals, and for cooking. There are even bags of Brown Sugar/Truvia mix for baking. And both are OK for Diabetics.

Due, that's interesting, but I'd like to see it in the finished products I buy, like Pepsi, cakes, etc. If it's essentially a 1:1 sugar replacement, why hasn't it taken off in mainstream products? Put differently, why don't we dump sugar? This stuff more expensive (the corn variety, that is; seems like he birches should be left alone)?
