Perhaps the oil release was to compensate for the Iraqi shortfall, as their biggest refinery was recently attacked and placed out of service, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know offhand what the plant's output was, though. It appears the mess might be a light sweet issue as the author of the previous article speculated.

'freakin refineries again? STILL haven't built one.

update - strike the above, it appears the Iraqi refinery was only processing 150,000 bpd
