I asked my father if we were going to have a bomb shelter, too, which goes to show you how concerned everyone became in those days. He didn't answer.

Overblown? Survive to what? Glad it's over, at any rate. Now we've got the crazy Islamists. . . .

Mmmmm....shrooms! Been three or four decades, but the memories linger.

Seems that any critical comment is an 'attack' in your mind. I have no need or desire to attack you in any way, mon; but I do think your scorn for those who would prepare for survival against the odds is messed up.

In the 1950's, the schools filled us with the fear of nuclear war and there was no shortage of material in the media on how to survive an atomic attack. I remember asking my Dad why we didn't stock a bomb shelter in the basement. Didn't we want to survive? "Survive to what?" he replied.
