Guys and gal,
I dropped AARP a few years ago as well. However, I also called the auto and home insurer, The Hartford Insurance Company, and asked them whether we had to remain members of the AARP in order to keep our insurance coverages.
We were assured that we did not need to do so and have remained with the Hartford ever since with NO INCREASES in premiums other than some changes we had made for better coverages.

SO, I found it refreshing I could get the same rates I had gotten from joining AARP when I quit AARP.

I wonder if this a dirty little secret they don't want out in the open for fear of people leaving in droves when they discover they can get some great rates on insurance coverages without staying with the AARP?

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Yes, Professor ... they are truly "buggers" in the English sense of the word. I heard from them when I turned 50 and I prompty tore up their invitation and tossed it in the trash. The Anti-American Retired Persons commune is not going to get a dime out of me ... other than what the Democrat Party steals from me through the IRS and uses to buy the AARP vote, that is.
