Hard to get a copyright infringement conviction when it is common practice across most discussion lists. It's generally a violation when money is made off it, i.e., the source loses revenue or you make money.
Yes, this is quite unfortunate. I don't alter articles that I post, and any comments that I make within the article are in brackets and in bold with my initial so it is clear that these are my own words. I usually (if maybe naively) figured that, since it is my practice to always include a link to the article, the publisher would be appreciative of the additional exposure to his publication. Oh well ... I guess from now on I will have to only provide a link to articles I deem important enough to post. But, in truth, this will only serve to drastically reduce my posts ... and further exposure to their sites.
