I heard a cspan caller say ubl was sighted in California twice after 9/11. They cut her off. Then, there's a lot of quacks and conspiracy theories.
It probably happened just as they said.
It's possible he was an 'asset' who was no longer one for whatever reason and became more valuable in death (real or faked). It did seem like he was more under house arrest (although the Pakistanis didn't say it) but it could have been hiding out protected, which seems most likely.
Seems like he was there and died there, as his three wives and kids were there.
None of those four tv shots look like his current body size, if you assume that side-shot of him on the video was him as he most recently looked. Saddam was very much into doubles. They used plastic surgery on them.
He could have died years ago, back when a couple of Afghanis said he died (they sounded very convincing, off the cuff, but could have been covering for him). Bhutto said he was dead, but someone might have wanted her off the trail or the US out of her hair. Maybe they took ubl out of cold storage for the occasion, to finally dump him.
Clearly, Obummer & Co., didn't have the story straight, so you have to wonder if anything was true or they're just totally stupid and/or ignorant.
Then, was ubl only thinking about hiking freely in the mountains and/or disrupting trains? Was he running an active al Qaeda Central or pretty much out of the picture? Was he hiding out or under house arrest? Lots of questions.
Moving on, one thing this event might have done is shake up the status quo over there some more. Syria's trying to 'out' the Hamas politburo and Qatar (what a friend of terrorists) might take it, minus the military leadership (isn't that an oxymoron). Maybe Syria thinks they're next? Interesting development, either way.
