MONTHLY ENERGY REVIEW APRIL 2011 RELEASE

The April 2011 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics, was released on April 29, 2011. Preliminary data on primary energy consumption indicate that for January 2011:
· U.S. residential sector primary energy consumption equaled 1.2 quadrillion Btu, a 1% decrease from January 2010. The residential sector accounted for 13% of primary energy consumption.
· U.S. commercial sector primary energy consumption equaled 0.6 quadrillion Btu, a 2% decrease from January 2010. The commercial sector accounted for 7% of primary energy consumption.
· U.S. industrial sector primary energy consumption equaled 1.8 quadrillion Btu, a 10% increase from January 2010. The industrial sector accounted for 20% of primary energy consumption.
· U.S. transportation sector primary energy consumption equaled 2.2 quadrillion Btu, a 1% increase from January 2010. The transportation sector accounted for 24% of primary energy consumption.
· U.S. electric power sector primary energy consumption equaled 3.5 quadrillion Btu, a 1% increase from January 2010. The electric power sector accounted for 37% of primary energy consumption.
