Norway’s Anti-Semitic Culture
by Lisa Richards

Norway is quickly becoming one of the world’s leading capitals of Jew-hatred.

Pro-Israel author Bruce Bawer says his adopted homeland has willingly opened its arms to embrace Islamic terrorists. And there is a reason for this ideology of hate—radical leftism has a historical stranglehold on Norwegians.

Bawer describes Norway’s anti-Semitism to The Jerusalem Post:

It’s a phenomenon of a sort that I never encountered in all my years in the US, and that I once thought had been banished to the dustbin of history. It’s most virulent among the cultural elite—the academics, intellectuals, writers, journalists, politicians, and technocrats.

They’re overwhelmingly on the left, and intensely hostile to the West, to capitalism, to the US and to Israel. Before the fall of the USSR, an extraordinary percentage of them were Communists. They have replaced their affinity to the Soviet Union with sympathy for the great totalitarian ideology of our time: Islamism. Thus they romanticize Palestinians and despise Israel.

Part of the motivation for this anti-Semitism is the influx into Norway in recent decades of masses of Muslims from Pakistan, Iraq, Somalia and elsewhere. Multiculturalism has taught Norway’s cultural elite to take an uncritical, even obsequious, posture toward every aspect of Muslim culture and belief. When Muslim leaders rant against Israel and the Jews, the reflexive response of the multiculturalist elite is to join them in their rantings. This is called solidarity.

Bawer told The Post Norway turned its back on Jews during the Nazi occupation. Although the country allied with America and Israel afterward, Norwegians as a whole never held any fondness for Jews. Since World War II, the county’s radical leftists have indoctrinated Jew hatred into students.

To advance their agenda, pro-Israel speakers are banned from Norwegian universities; Norwegians are taught to define Jews as the “bully” and Muslims as the “victim.” Any Norwegian with the audacity to show support for Israel, defend Jews, and even consider Islamic terror evil, is disregarded and shunned at institutions of higher learning. Only anti-Semitic “critics of Israel, apologists for terrorism, hard-line Islamists and relativizers of the Holocaust” are welcome on Norwegian campuses.

Leftism breeds Jew hatred. Radical supporters of communism, socialism, and fascism support Islam’s attempts to destroy Israel and annihilate Jews, and leftists around the world hate the U.S. and Israel. They adored the former Soviet Union and never stood up to its atrocities because the horrors were committed against Jews and Soviet dissenters, the very people the Left wants removed from existence.

Leftist indoctrination is eerily similar to the propaganda that cultivated Jew-hatred in Nazi Germany and led to the extermination of six million innocent Jews. Once again, this vicious anti-Semitism of the past has erupted full force in Europe, fostering hate for Jews and hero worship for Islam and its terrorists.

As Germans did with pictures of Hitler, Bawer notes that Norwegian bars hung photos of Yasser Arafat in windows when he was alive, idolizing the murderer of Israelis without protest from locals. And the hate doesn’t stop there. The Jerusalem Post reports that Norway’s Labor Party lawmaker Anders Mathisen publicly denies the Holocaust, dedicating his time to searching concentration camps around Europe in an effort to prove Jews invented the Holocaust conspiracy. Mathisen is demanding history be rewritten: he seeks the removal of the Holocaust from Norwegian textbooks and history books, claiming Jews “exaggerated their stories” and “there is no evidence the gas chambers and or mass graves existed.”

Some Norwegians appear to disagree with Mathisen and manage some level of inoculation against indoctrination attempts, insisting they harbor no anti-Semitism and “deplore” the Holocaust. But even so, many of them refer to Muslims as “today’s Jews.” In that twisted analogy, “Israelis are today’s Nazis,” and “Israel is a bloodthirsty warmonger.”

This is how the Left has always operated. They pretend to be liberals, proclaiming themselves the lovers of peace and protectors of minorities, when in truth, there is no peace-bringing from, or with, the Left. The only thing leftists offer the world is same thing Islam offers–death and destruction.
