Theo only thing different about the drives is the speed in which they are read by the computer. The IDE and SATA read at different speeds. You can clear a hard drive by Formatting it, using "F" Disk in dos, or do same using hard drive software.
No need to worry whether the drive is IDE or SATA. SATA is the preferred drive, especially if yer motherboard supports the latest versions of SATA which are reasonably quick, but pale in comparison to a solid state hard drive...
That would be first choice....
