If COVID-19 winds up hurting us the way that the Spanish flu did, then yes, the best thing is to lock down all of our businesses and restrict people to their homes so that it will quickly die off. I bet Italy wishes it had done that.

But what if it turns out to be worse than the Spanish flu? What if, for instance, it DOESN'T go away? Did you know that the immunity people develop from other colds lasts just a few months? And those viruses return year after year with people often catching a nearly identical strain a second, third or fourth time. If COVID-19 is like that then I'd say without much exaggeration that civilization as we know it is doomed.

And what if COVID-19 is milder than we think? That's possible too. If that's the case, then we should just grit out teeth and accept our losses for the next several months. Killing a sizeable chunk of our economy would indeed be a terrible price to pay for a disease that doesn't warrant it.

I don't know what to do, micro. Speaking for myself, I intend to hole up as best I'm able until the right course of action becomes clearer.
