Wrong. Fauci actually compared it to a VERY bad flu. Your source chose to water his statement down.

As I've said many times here, hospitalized COVID-19 patients die at twice the rate of hospitalized flu patients. I'd say that probably makes it comparable to a very bad flu. Where it differs from influenza is that a COVID-19 patient is many times more likely to need hospitalization, and the disease is about 30 times as contagious as a typical flu.
