The reason he's wrong is that his recommendation might eliminate 95 percent of the infections, but the remaining 5 percent would still be there. When his shut down ends, the U.S. will be back to where it was in late February. A month later, the numbers will return to where they are today.

What he hasn't considered is that there haven't been enough survivors yet to create a herd immunity in the general population. Wiping out the disease temporarily will be just that: Temporary. Once 50 million people or so have been infected and survived, SARS-CoV-2 will have a harder time spreading and will slow down. Until then, it won't.

BTW, I think China has made this mistake. If I'm right, its epidemic will be back in the next month.
