....nope they can't do it and if you let them do it you are a fool. If they take your car and have an accident in it while chasing somebody it is YOU who are responsible. They are also under no obligation to repair things they might tear up like the engine and or transmission. My advice is if a cop ever tells ya he is going to "commandeer your vehicle" take your keys out and toss em on top of the nearest building.
...soldiers cannot be quartered in your home and cops cannot "commandeer anything". And that's a fact jack!
