The Dow is down 2,200 right. I just moved about 20% of my bond portfolio into stock funds.

To share some more bad news (and observations) that you folks might not hear elsewhere:

• It looks increasingly as if Italy and Iran have a different, more virulent strain of the disease. Italy currently has 12,500 cases and the country is locked down.

• The U.S. is about ten days behind Italy.

• Although we're being told that only the elderly have reason for fear, otherwise-healthy people in their 40s are dying in Italy.

• Qatar, a WARM weather country, has a signficant breakout. It has 262 cases, which is where the U.S. was on March 6th, and had more than 60 new cases yesterday. This puts a real damper on the theory that the disease will die off in the summer.

• The U.S. has 1 million hospital beds, but 65% of them are in use at any given time for all the usual reasons. The country therefore has 350,000 available hospital beds. Hospitals can easily be pushed beyond their capacities by the virus, beginning as early as next month.

• Some hospitals are planning to erect tents to do preliminary checks on those who arrive. Others are working on ways to do on-line examinations. Anything to keep healthy people away from hospitals.
