First, morbidity from the disease ascends a gradient that corresponds to age. Anyone can die from the disease, but the young are LEAST LIKELY.

Second, anyone who develops pneumonia but survives runs a risk of serious side effects including but not limited to pulmonary scarring and brain damage.

Third, if hospital care suffers, we're all at risk. Any of us could have a life-threatening car accident or heart attack. If hospitals are short on staff, medicine or space, we're at risk.

Fourth, people in this country might die from a shortage of essential services. That includes anything from starving to death because grocery stores aren't stocked, to getting killed in a robbery due a lessened police presence, to being unable to refill an essential prescription.

BTW, I'm heading to the store today. I intend to get another month's worth of canned food and at least 25 pounds of chicken leg/thigh quarters..
