Realist - Everybody in America is soft, and hates conflict. The cure for this, both in politics and social life, is the same -- hardihood. Give them raw truth.

Re: "Costco runs out of “emergency food kits” following coronavirus outbreak"
So far, I've had no problems getting the things I wanted but I did take the last of several items at Walmart. They included the 2-pack of daytime/nighttime generic Theraflu, quart-sized canning jars, canned yams, and 100 watt generic LED bulbs. I'd be surprised if they don't quickly restock the shelves on most of these items.

While I was in hardware, an employee brought a customer to the department and asked the manager if there were any face masks left. Without even looking, the manager said "No." That's probably the only sign I've seen that anyone else is stocking up. The only people that I've talked to have looked at me like I was nuts when I mentioned why I was buying such quantities. (It DOES attract people's attention.)

Today's purchases were mostly OTC medicines, 6-cases of Ramen, one case of chicken noodle soup and a few frozen items. Still an awful lot to buy including powdered milk, jello, canning supplies, oatmeal, hard candy, soft drinks, and frozen foods including meat. I'm only buying things I will use anyway and that can keep. (Yes, I'll still eat meat that's been frozen for a couple of years. The freezer burn has to be pretty bad before I'll toss it out.)

We vacuum sealed dried beans today. We probably should order more. I need to fill gas and diesel cans ... and some of the propane tanks too.
