I go to the Big City three times per week now to do something called "cardio rehab" with a bunch of other half-dead old farts and a couple of cute nurses. It amounts to an hour of exercise while wearing enough wires that the nurses know whether they need to cart anyone off to the E.R. So far, I've survived.

Since I'm in town anyway, I've been taking the opportunity to stock up on much needed supplies. Last week and today I trucked over to Wal-mart and bought six packages both days of their "Mega" toilet paper. Each pack claims to be the equivalent of 72 rolls while actually only being 18 rolls. I'd like to know what the brand is that they're comparing themselves to. It must be the "Twiggy" of toilet tissue.

Well, six packages pretty near fills a shopping cart to overflowing, so I've attracted attention both times. Last time, a fellow came up to me and asked if I was "having a crappy day." Since I'd also bought a case of yams, I held one can up so he could see and said "Naw, the wife is making yams for dinner. They give me the runs like you wouldn't believe."

Today, I was asked if there was a run on Toilet Paper. "No, not now," I said. "Get back to me with that question in three weeks though, will you?" A woman more seriously asked me why I was buying so much. "Stocking up?" she speculated. "I am," I replied. "If you follow what's happening in Asia, you'll understand why." She actually DID understand, I'm happy to say. She said it was smart, and that she hadn't thought about buying extra toilet paper.

Twelve mega-packs ought to tide us over for quite a while. TP, fortunately, is one of those things that can be stored for almost forever without going bad. I've got a little bit of room as a result of all the boxes that have been hauled to the barn and am finally getting back to accumulating necessities. Still, the latest news about the virus makes me think that preparing is hopeless. Sooner or later, I think we're all going to catch it.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
