I am not a fan of hunting and killing animals for the sake of hunting to kill some creature that deserves to live as much as any of us and likey more so.
I guess I saw enough killing and maiming and disembodiments earlir in my lie that I abhor killing for the sake of killing. To kill a bear or any animal like that which was not harming anyone's property, or bothering people, but was in his own "backyard" if you would, for no other reason than to say You got a trophy is just wrong...
I have killed. Men. Lots of them. They were however trying to kill me and my brothers and succeeded a lot in maiming and killing my brothers in arms. I was fortunate. ONly by God's grace was I not in a body bag.
I at least know why HE preserved me. I don;t kill for the sake of killing. Anyone can take a life of another creature. There is no skill in doing that.
It actually takes more to decide NOT to kill when it isn't necessary. Can;t tell you exactly how many times I did not squeeze the trigger toward the end of the fight and could easily have done so...
There is no joy in killing. Only sorrow and long and bad memories.
The bear was not bothering anyone and had lived a long life just being who he was. There was no reason to kill him just because he had grown large by staying inside of his habitat and foraging.
To ME, that was killing for no reason to do so....
Lot's of times it is more difficult NOT to take the shot.
As a cop, RIBS knows this..
