The supposedly-debunked story that the ACE2 receptor plays a role in contracting COVID-19 is back and gaining steam. ACE2 receptors express themselves more in the lungs than in the esophagus or sinuses and may account for the many cases where breathing difficulty was an early symptom. Asians have double the ACE2 receptors on average that Europeans do. Japanese have the most of all. This may explain why ALL the deaths to date have been Asians and why the disease is spreading so slowly in the Americas and Europe.

We in the western world could therefore dodge a bullet with regard to this disease. We will NOT, however, dodge a bullet with regard to its economic consequences. China is, so often, the sole source supplier of our medicines, minerals, car parts and electronics. In fact, if Trump loses in November, I think it will because of a COVID-19 inspired recession.
