Day 15: Sibling
Aniston is big sister. She has lived in the shadow of Mila since the day she was born. She has had to be away from her parents for weeks at a time. When we run into people she knows they will ask how Mila is doing but won't ask about her. She has missed birthdays and holidays. She has had to see her baby sister in an ICU with more tubes and wires than she can count. She has learned to tube feed and knows Mila's med schedule. She can read medication bottles and prepare the syringes. (Supervised for accuracy, of course)
Aniston has been terrified. She has asked if Mila will die. She has asked if people would love her more if she was sick. She is worried when we leave her.
That is a lot for a 6 year old. It is a lot for anyone!
Although Aniston has been traumatized and has all the justification to be scared, angry, anxious, and sad; she is the most amazing sister to Mila. She doesn't get near the recognition she should!
So here is a small fragment of appreciation and praise she deserves. (Not that anything could ever be enough.)
**Siblings of critically ill children need to be checked on. They are living that nightmare, they are scared. They are forgotten by many. They have to be put second way too often. They need your prayers. They need your attention. They need your love!**
