If you decide to stock a few extras just in case, here are some things to consider:

1) Your pets need food too. I've got an extra 55lb sack of dog food in the garage, stored in a sealed, heavy duty trash bag. I should probably buy another one but I'm a little concerned about rancidity.
2) Essential medicines are as important as food. Ask your doctor if he will give you a second prescription that you can fill at a different pharmacy. My doctor was fine with that since my medicine isn't anything a sane person would want to abuse.
3) You need toilet paper and you probably won't be able to get it if there's ever a run on the stores.
4) You should have a generator . . . and plenty of gas or diesel with which to run it.
5) Canned food stored in a cool place can keep for double the listed shelf-life. That's 3 to 6 years. This isn't true for foods you can yourself. They'll keep for one year.
6) Don't make the mistake I did. Some of the Progresso soups I first bought only have 70 calories. That won't keep anyone alive for long. By way of contrast, the Progresso "Loaded Potato With Bacon" soup I bought later has 330 calories per can. Much better.
7) Consider gardening. The fewer trips you have to make to town once COVID-19 hits your area, the better.
8 ) Don't forget the Lysol. Even if you plan to hole up in your house until this thing blows over (which might be months, years or even never), you may still receive mail or deliveries that need to be sanitized inside and out. BTW, a flu virus only survives 24 hours on a surface. A cold virus survives a week. Ebola survives two weeks. One virus, uncovered in permafrost, was revived and found to still be infectious after 30,000 years! But COVID-19? I don't think anyone knows. Buy some Lysol.
9) Avoid people who are even occasionally around kids like, ahem, the plague.

China seems to have found a miraculous cure for COVID-19, with a resultant drop of about 65 percent in both new cases and new deaths. (That's derived by projecting the earlier growth trends forward, as shown on my chart, then comparing the projected numbers to the numbers the Chinese reported today.) Coolest of all, the Chinese were able to implement this cure virtually overnight!

By my reckoning, the new case count should have been about 5,194 not 1,855. And the new death count should have been about 104, not 37.

Eradication of the disease comes just in time, as the Chinese government has ordered citizens back to work on Monday. How amazingly... no, UNBELIEVABLY fortunate!!
