Glad to be here today.
I was heading to Cleveland yesterday morning. Sunny sky and pleasant. I had just had the oil changed in the car and it was cleaned and vacuumed at the car wash inside and out.
Said goodbye to miz micro and Charlie my 66 pound 1 year old Red Heeler and headed off.
Ran across the outer beltway perfectly fine and then got off on I-71 north to COlumbus and then Cleveland.
Was talking in my hands free car system to a friend a little way and finished and started to just concentrate on driving.
60 miles later the engine light comes on flashing, (image of an engine in amber color outline)and car is bucking and shuddering. I pulled onto shoulder immediately and shut it down. Started it back up and it idled fine and smoooth. Stepped on gas agently and it started to move but bucking like a bronco..
SO, I was stuck. Never had that happen before. Called AAA and told them my problem and to send a tow truck.
I was visited by the State Highway Patrol of Ohio and asked what I was doing on the shoulder with my emergency flashers blinking. I explained to them the situation and that a tow was coming in about an hour or so...
They were okay with that. An hour and 20 minutes later a tow truck arrived with a flat top and pulled my car on top of it with hydraulic cable and away we went back to my house and mechanic up the road from me.
I haven't heard anything from them about finding anything that is the culprit.
My little brother who has been a parts mnager at dealerships all his life and does some repair work said it sounded like the fuel pump was dying. That would account for the abilty to idle smooth but when you try to feed gas in drive it is intermittent and thus the bucking like feel.
I wondered if it is throttle body going bad. Don't know.
Hope the guys discover something today that is the actual cause of the problem.
Never had a car do that to me before and I pride myself on the meticulous preventive maintenance I do to all our cars. Always purchase t en manufacturer oil filters for this car because they have over double the filtration than FRam and other filters you can buy... Catch more dirt and remove it fom the oil. The Throttle body was cleaned as were the carbon deposits on the valves of the engine. Belts were good too but that is one thing I did not check yesterday MAybe a belt broke and that is causing probelms with the electrical system??
Don't know.. Got ot know the tow operator and he was really nice person. Young fella who is going to Sturgis with his Bike. He belongs to a clu that raises money for children in need and veterans who are struggling.
I don't know why this happened but I have peace over it and know it was for a reason...
WEhat a day...
