The quote may as well be comparing a nose to a foot; some of us are capable of both knowledge AND love.

Knowledge is a function of the higher, "human" brain. Some people don't use it. Love and the other emotions are functions of the middle, "mammalian" brain. Most people who aren't psychopaths use it. Believe me, I do.

There aren't many who forego emotions. They, after all, come easily, often without control. We have them from the time we are infants. In contrast, there are plenty of people... liberals, mostly... who intentionally forego knowledge. Knowledge takes effort and most liberals are intellectually lazy.

So I'm stumped by this warning not to be "swallowed up" by knowledge. Only good things can come from knowledge, imo. It's what we DON'T know that can hurt us. The admonishment should be directed at those who shun knowledge.
