Re: "Could we simply mind our own business for awhile? We have enough problems of our own here..."
You aren't going to find many people who are more Isolationist than I am. If I were king, I'd say, "Yes, of course we could and should mind our own business."

The trouble is, I'm not king and not many in this country value the things I do. After explaining the implications, I bet just 5 percent would want to go that route.

There are three key problems I see with minding our own business: (1) Just because we start minding our doesn't mean that our enemies will mind THEIRS. How long are we supposed to put up with being messed with?

(2) We can't have our cake and eat it too. Americans like to do business around the world. They like to travel and feel secure when they do so. IMO, we'd be better off if we stopped both practices, but I don't think many in the country would go along with it. As part of minding our own business, is the U.S. going to do nothing when foreign terrorists kidnap American families or try to nationalize American businesses abroad?

Lastly, (3), there's the huge void we'd create for Russia, China, ISIS, IRAN, etc., to fill as we moved out.

It's a shame we ever put ourselves in these positions in the first place. Backing away from now from the roles we've assumed could bring unacceptable risks, at least in the short term.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

I have been thinking, which is usally a dangerous thing but the fact is Ribs, me, DG, and some others have been to war and involved in combat. So we have an idea of what things are like under fire and seeing the damage humans sustain when being hit by flying lead of all types.

So I have been rethinking the President's platform on which he ran about ending wars and getting the heck out of places on the other side of the world like Pakisatn, Afghanistan, the middle east in general includig Iran and Iraq.

I haven't figured out HOW to do it but one thing I am thinking is what happens if we just say let those people kill themselves and determine their own destiny and get out of their and worry about our own selves?

Seriously, do we have to be the world's policeman? I am all for being well prepared witha military force that poses a real danger to ANY who would think to do harm to us here at home, but I really find it after decades now tiresome to always be mired in a mess involving ragheads from Eurasia and Somalia in Africa. Kinda far from home and what exactly have we gained except lots of casualties and debt to support all the military equipment, and ammunition supplies?

Could we simply mind our own business for awhile? We have enough problems of our own here and think of the money we could save. Maybe even require and demand a Constituional BALANCED Budget and require paying off the debt every year by a percentage until it is wiped out..

Just some thoughts but I like several of them....
