The Bible is replete with analogies, metaphors and similes. It would be arrogant to assume we know all instances that are literal and all instances that are not.

"And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars."

This is an example of something in the Bible that is not literally true. The moon is not a light. It is a piece of rock that we can see at night if it is lit up.

That's why I don't buy into the line that thorough and accurate explanations are found in the Bible. I will agree that quality HINTS are there. The Bible is more like a high level roadmap on how to lead one's life, but not a detailed instruction manual and it is often not literal.

Science is striving to come up with the practical, literal details the Bible omits.
