For starters, it would bring an absolute end to charity. Why would anyone give willingly knowing that 75% of everything they had was going to be taken by the government and given coldly "to the poor" later? For that matter, who decides who the recipients of this bounty might be? Why, our friends in government, of course. They're regular Santa Clauses.

In such a system, we'd all be poor, DG.

On the other hand, under such a system you wouldn't be trapped in Nowheresville right now. When your Mom passed, everything she built would have been parted out and sold. That would have solved your problem. You'd have had little choice but to leave.
