A World Without Love

In 1963, Paul shared a room with Peter Asher, the brother of his girlfriend. Asher asked for and was given permission to use a song that Paul had written in 1958 or 1959, when he was 16. It went to #1 in 1964 for Peter & Gordon.

It's For You

Brian Epstein, The Beatles' manager, managed many other bands and singers. Every so often, he'd give their careers a jump by throwing them a McCartney or Lennon song that the Beatles had written but opted not to record. That's how Cilla Black lucked into It's For You in 1964.
