Re: "I suspect thatonce De arrives at the hospital and they get a close look at that heart problem, he ain't coming back home. I think he will be spending time right there with a team of cardilogists who will formulate a plan of action that hopefully will work best for De...."
I'm happy to say that that was NOT the case. I'm home now.

The doc says that since my valve is presenting symptoms (typically chest pain, arrhythmia, dizziness or shortness of breath, of which I only have chest pain), surgery IS likely to be required. I asked him what would happen if I didn't have the surgery. He said that I would not be here in two years. That makes the decision easy. But my condition doesn't have a "stop the presses!" urgency either.

I'm going in for an angiogram on November 8th. If all looks good (or not so good), they'll schedule surgery for "about two weeks" later. I may ask them to delay it a little until Joey's semester is finished. That would be around December 10th.

Here's the bad news. I have a bicuspid valve instead of the tricuspid valve you so-called normal people have. That means that my valve is probably elongated, not circular. Consequently, the replacement valve - which is round - won't fit properly. The doc thinks that, for that reason, I will not be a candidate for the non-invasive valve replacement. I'll have to have my chest cracked, spending 5 to 7 days in the hospital. He says it will take 90 days to recover, and for the first 30, I'll feel like shit. Okay, those are my words, not his, but you get the idea. Even I know that "chest cracking" is, for the patient, about the hardest type of surgery. During that period, I may come across as a bit crabby. I hope you guys will bear with me from whenever the surgery is until at least a month later.
