Just got my echocardiogram result as an e-mail. It's not good. I have severe aortic stenosis. Through my own research, I learned that average life expectancy for people with that condition is three years if it is untreated. Average aortic valve size is 3-4 cm². Mine is 0.5 cm². As my wife put it, that means my blood is being pumped through a straw instead of a hose. And the report says there is some sort of heart enlargement, but it sounds like it might be limited.

I haven't heard from a cardiologiest, but I'm sure I will soon.

I went there for a "stress test" - which, for those of you who haven't had one, is just an EKG taken while you walk about a hundred miles on a treadmill.

They wired me up, started the EKG machine, turned it all off and said "No stress test for you!"

I guess what they saw in the EKG was THAT good.

The cardiologist there saw that my general practitioner had scheduled me for an echocardiogram in November. He said, "That's farther away than I think is appropriate. They're really backed up on echos but we'll see if we can move it forward." I got home and my wife said I need to go back in to have that done at 1:00 pm tomorrow.

On the brighter side, I was able to entertain several interns. The doc called them in and had 'em all take a listen to my chest. It must've sounded like bongos based on their reactions.

Ugh. Life is too short for this sort of nonsense.
