Portland cosmetics and skincare company Pacifica Beauty plans to close its factory and warehouse in Northwest Portland in January and lay off the 75 employees.
“Production and shipping will be outsourced to contractors,” the company wrote Tuesday in a letter to state employment officials. “Some of the production will be outsourced to China.”
On Thursday, Pacifica issued a statement saying the original letter was incorrect and that no work will go to China.
“The brand is committed to keeping jobs in Portland and throughout the US and will continue to deliver on the product quality standards it is known and loved for,” Pacifica said in a written statement.
