Good morning De!

Ah yes, the art of digging large holes in the ground and filling them back uo.

Welcome to the United States Marine Corps boot camp....

Done that more than a few times. It's what happens when ya open yer pie hole and the drill sergeant did not ask you to, or want you to... You learn pretty quickly after digging a few pits and refilling them.

I often that that might have a shot at teaching discipline to boys growing up at home.... Prolly get in trouble with civil authorities if we tried that though....

Why?

If you're going to dig a hole, at least stick a tree in it.

One of my biggest failings in NH to date involves trees. I need to plant a LOT of fruit trees, but all I've planted is two cherry trees about ten years ago. One died and the other ALMOST died. All that's left of it is a foot of trunk and one branch that turned upward and is now fifteen feet high. I don't consider that a success. I did learn from the experience that young trees will be damaged, presumably by deer, if they aren't caged. I didn't know that was the problem until I tried caging them and suddenly the one tree that survived began to thrive.

So I need to plant trees, both here and on Property #2. This is probably a good time of the year to put them in. You should do the same.
