The barn's septic system is in! I had to write a big check to the excavation guy. Not all of it was for the septic, but most of it was....

The leach field is doing double-doody, so to speak. Propeller The house will use the same field but will have its own septic tank well uphill from this one.

I was told that the rest of the barn's concrete floor is being poured tomorrow!

Scroll down for photos.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

I haven't posted any updates on the barn in a while. To some extent, that's because there hasn't been as much progress made. The upstairs is awaiting electricians who started but didn't complete the wiring and lamp installation. Until they're done, the insulation and ceiling drywall won't be put in.

All the exterior doors have now been installed. The stairs are in. Closets are being built to take advantage of residual space behind the stairs on the 1st floor and above the stairwell ceiling on the 2nd floor. The garage floor is being prepped for concrete. (It was re-graded. Foam (the pink stuff in photo #2) was laid down. Rebar has been put in place.) Three photos follow.

I bought steel "U" hooks at Home Depot to set into the concrete. I want to be able to chain equipment up since the barn will be unattended for most of the next two years. The builder returned them to me saying that I need 1/2" galvanized steel. He says what I gave him will quickly corrode. Okay. Since Home Depot didn't carry anything better, my next stop will be Tractor Supply.

I met with the builder and the excavator this morning, and gave them both copies of the finalized house plan. (Copies of the 7-page plan ran $25 at Staples on 24”x36” paper (arch D size), and just $1.40 for a smaller print on 11"x17"-inch paper. I need to make another 8 copies... but, fortunately, only of the smaller size.)

The excavator is set to begin putting in the septic system, and then extending the driveway 300 feet up the hill to the new build location. Home construction will start in the spring.
