I'm going to say something that is a little different perspective than "they got what they deserved".
Those boys were still boys. Young with an entire lifespan ahead of them.
Did they have ANY say in who their mother or father is/was/ could have been? Did they have any say in how they brought up and by whom?
My children were raised by my wife primarily and by US when I was home. We live in a good area and neighborhood. We took them to our church and Sunday School. We READ to them from the time they were 2 years old out of children's books and pointed to the words. Before she turned three my oldest daughter could read most of the books herself because she memorized the words we pointed to and pronounced.
KIDS are predominantly, not always, a product of their environment they grow up in and observe. They "learn" from what they see others DO and SAY.
We have no idea of the environment these boys were brought up in. I suspect it likely was not a good one. They were not instructed/taught right from wrong because those who raised them did not teach them either by voice or by actions.
Then, what were they permitted to play with and occupy them? Video Games that taught them how to shoot people on a screen and think it's fun?
I HATE VIDEO GAMES for that very reason. It is a primary reason our culture i getting more and more dangerous because the children think and believe those games their parents allowed them to be immersed in is REALITY.... And in a child's mind, it is very real....
So, we have a tragic ending to three teen boys who did wrong, and lost their lives because of their upbringing.
The homeowner defended himself and his neighbors. He is not at fault. I bet he feels badly about this right about now too.
These three boys went out into eternity at 16 and 15.
I doubt they knew any better. That does not justify their action, but they were victims of their upbringing. The mother and whoever the father(s) may be are the ones who bear responsibility.
This really saddens me and is weighing on me.
I doubt they ever went to Sunday School or heard about Jesus. I doubt they learned anything about HIS LOVE for them because HE created them and KNEW THEM PERSONALLY before they were conceived in their mother's womb. Yes, HE knew ALL of us before our conception. It is recorded in God's WORD in those exact words. He knew us before birth and forever.
THIS is a TRAGEDY. A SAD DAY. I do not know their spiritual condition. I can only hope they do not spend eternity in hell. I doubt they ever learned of or about the Lord Jesus. So Sad....
