Really enjoyed being with my 8 year old grandson and his 3 year old brother and seeing my baby daughter the attorney. for a week.
We came back home on the 10th of this month. Flying into LaGuardia airport in New York was really cool to fly over the Harbor at low altitude and see the Statue of Liberty in the Harbor and Ellis Island. The Manhattan Skyline is spectacular as well.
The adventure continues.
Got my credit card statement in the mail yesterday. Reviewing it my eagle eyed better half notd a charge for $107.00 from Avis rental car for the date we returned our car at 8:30 a.m. with a FULL tank of gas.....
So we got on the phone and called customer service at Avis to find out what this was all about as we had prepaid our rental in full back in June....
The agent in customer service told me that $16.15 was for gasoline charges.
I asked why? I filled it completely up less than a quarter mile from where I returned it and had the receipt.
He stuttered a little and then asked if he credited the charge for the gasoline would it be okay to leave the $91.01 balanceo n the card?
I said NO. WHAT was the rest of these charges all about?
He did not know but opened a case number on it and gave me a phone number to call in Norfolk where I rented the car at the airport except I had got this thru PRICELINE and paid it in full back in June. A compact car.
So I called the number and talked to someone else. After awhile I asked what are these charges excluding the gasoline charge that was now going to be put in for a credit?
This guy asks about the car I rented? What kind was it? I told him I was handed a set of keys after giving th counter person my paperwork and the clerk said the car was red and over there. It turned out to a GMC Terrain.
What happened to my Hyundai Elantra???? I guess they gave all the small cars away even though my reserved two months prior. So the person at the counter realized she gave away my reserved car and just handed me these keys.
So this guy says I was charged $75.00 for an upgrade.
I informed that I did not authorize an upgrade, was never told anything at the counter about an upgrade, and wanted that charge credited and removed.
He did not like it but agreed to do so. It may take ten days to 2 weeks to show up.
I asked what about the remaining $17.00 worth of charges??? WHAT was the story on this?
He said that was a LATE FEE on the RETURN of the vehicle by 18 hours.....
Hmmmmmmmm. WE arrived back at the airport an hour earlier than we said which was 8:15 a.m. and our flight left round 10:00 a.m. We were on it so how could we possibly be late weith the return of this car??
I have the boarding passes to prove it too.
Kind of surprised this guy who just told me TWO of the biggest whoppers I had heard besided the first one about the gasoline charge when they did not put any gas into this vehicle....
He grudgingly agreed now to remove the remaining charges via a credit to my card.
SO,
would YOU believe ANYTHING that this company would tell you including about crediting your acount? WHY so long???
Well, I don't believe a word they said. After having been lied to 3 times in a row there is zero credibilty remainig to AVIS.
SO I called my bank's credit card services to report this. A fraud and dispute specialist spent 20 minutes with me going over this and said not to worry. They will handle it from here. He gave mne the direct line to him and said to call and check anytime I wanted. They would get back with me and let me know how it is going...
Would I ever rent another car through Priceline or AVIS again?
NOPE.... Not ever. This was simply an attempt to extract more money from me and faudulently at that.
There will be no more rental cars at the airport period. As for Avis, I would not do business with them ever, anywhere period. Truly a company of con artists and liars and would be thieves....
So that was ow my day started. Hope yours was better.....
