It's also about the hardest. When you're REALLY sick, one of the things you're least inclined to do is to get onto your feet.

Many years ago, I had a 105° fever for a considerable time. It felt like an eternity though it was actually only for most of one night. At some point as I was lying there, it occurred to me that I might be dying - which isn't too far fetched since temps of 106° and above can result in brain damage. I remember thinking about that and also that I didn't care. Not a bit. It's hard to care about anything when you're miserable.

The only other time I thought I might be dying was when I had those kidney stones. I'd misdiagnosed the problem as being an intestinal blockage... and that really CAN be fatal. On that occasion, I definitely *did* care, but I also wasn't delusional like I probably was when I had the fever.
