...back when the economy of the U.S. was agricucltural most of the people lived in the country. The electoral college was to keep the folks living in the country from running everything to their advantage and nothing for the cities. Now that we don't have so many people involved in an agricultural economy and the cities having larger populations it keeps the cities from running the entire country. (at least that is what snapits told me that jefferson told him.)

#1 is a prime example of why the Electoral College is such a great component of our Constitution. If the POTUS was elected purely on the national popular vote, like the infantile morons of the Pffffarter Methane Bubble believe should be, then treasonous assholes (i.e., Democrats) in Democrat plantation states (i.e., Kalifornia, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, Oregon, Minnesota, New Jersey, Connecticut, etc.) could simply cast more votes than there are actual voters (this has actually happened many times already in several Democrat precincts over the past several elections) by allowing convicted felons and illegal aliens to vote and by harvesting the local cemeteries (human and pet) once every four years.
