Re: "...and POWWWWWWWWW My brakes didn't work."
Wow. Really sorry to hear that. Did you have any warning on those brakes? I drove an Isuzu with increasingly spongy brakes for about a year once. (Mechanics couldn't find the problem.)

I went to town yesterday to register the Highlander. I wound up NOT registering it since I found that if I retrieved the minivan's license plates and its NH registration, I can save myself 40 bucks. The only problem is, my wife is in Virginia with the minivan right now. She'll need to mail that stuff here after she goes to the DMV and registers it with Joey. I have another 10 days or so to get the Highlander registered.

So, while I was waiting for the town clerk, I chatted with an older gentleman and his wife who were also waiting. He told me that he's 83, and he had his first accident EVER in July - and it was with his wife!!! I said that right. He was exiting his property as his wife was entering. She blacked out due to a medical problem and struck him. How sucky is that???

Then we talked about something else I hadn't heard. A 24 year old woman from my little town was killed last week. She fell asleep while driving, left the road, hit and went over a dead tree, then flipped into a river. The accident wasn't noticed until morning.

One of the most tragic aspects of it is that both sides of her car grazed live trees. If she'd hit either one solidly, they'd have halted the car and she'd still be here. But she missed 'em and only hit a dead tree that just gave way. That was it for her.

The man said she'd graduated college, but wasn't married and had no kids. If there's a silver lining to the story, that's it.
